Regular Training Programme

IEG has functioned as a centre for specialised teaching and training since its inception.

IES Training Programme

Since 1968, the Indian Economic Service (IES) section of the Institute of Economic Growth has been organising training programmes for IES officers on behalf of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Training in economic policy and planning is provided on a regular basis to newly recruited IES Officer Trainees, and to in-service officers from time to time. The objective of the training programmes is to enrich the officers’ understanding of economic issues and to strengthen their capacity to contribute effectively to policy making.

The IES section is also involved in research on issues of economic policy and development. In 2017–18, the faculty’s research resulted in peer-reviewed publications in key areas of economic policy such as labour and employment, financial access, trade facilitation, manufacturing, competition, ecological economics, and data analysis.

The IES section draws on its own research in the areas of economic policy while training the IES officers. Its continuous engagement with applied research which is relevant to economic policy enables it to provide training that is appropriate and current. The faculty use their expertise on data and institutional arrangements, and their familiarity with the latest research techniques and software, to inform their teaching.

During 2017–18, the IEG conducted two training programmes for the IES:

Phase-I of the induction-level training programme for the 15 IES Officer Trainees of Batch 2016 started on January 2, 2017 and continued until May 19, 2017.
